Songs 1 and 2 were written on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's birthday and the 50th anniversary of her reign, the third song was written on the occasion of Princess Juliana becoming the Queen.

Max Vredenburg is especially known for his pioneering role in the establishment of Jeugd en Muziek Nederland (Youth and Music in the Netherlands). As a music critic, he worked for almost all the Dutch newspapers sharing his great knowledge with readers.
